International Center of Photography - New York, New York

The international Center of Photography is the nation's foremost museum exclusively devoted to the showing of this century's greatest photography.  Major works of most of the world's premiere photographic journalists and artists form the very earliest to the most recent have been shown here.  
The problem the Center management faced was that a particular vintage photographic exhibition soon to be featured at the Center was intenesely sensitive to the degradation of visible and ultraviolet light.  The Center had an overwhelming need to protect the exhibition and take precautions beyond the normal procedures.

In searching for a solution, the Center resolved that the visible light must be reduced to less than 8 foot candles per sqaure inch and that the ultraviolet light, the most damaging rays of the sun, must be reducted by 99%.  After investigating available resources for a solution, the Center chose a combination of Llumar Window Films.  Llumar R 15 G Window Film and a few transparent blinds reduced the visible light to the desired level.  The Llumar R 15 G Film alone cut down the transmittance of visible light by 93%.  Llumar UV CL SR PS, a clear, ultraviolet light-resistant film, was used in the reception area to allow passers by to see in.  Together, the films have virtually eliminated ultraviolet light (99%) within the exhibit area.  The films were professionally installed and use a long lasting, distortion-free adhesive system to provide the cleanest, hardest, thinnest bond with the window panes.  The installation of Llumar films enabled the Center to create the safest possible environment to display photographs. 

In commenting on the installtion, the building operations manager said, "We were pleased to be able to find a material that not only met our needs, it exceeded them.  An unexpected bonus was that the film aesthetically blends with the look of the building giving a much more unified appearance.   Bu what is most important, it has freed that Center from concern for sun
